80,000 people march to demand government Restore Nature Now

What an incredible day!

When we started planning the Restore Nature Now march back in November last year we had a clear vision. Along with a demonstration of love for our natural world, we wanted to demand the next government take immediate and decisive action for biodiversity.

Our goal was to unite environmental groups and organisations through direct action, encouraging a shift ‘from the sofa to the streets’ for nature lovers. We envisaged a mass protest coalition of the big traditional environmental NGOs, alongside grassroots groups and the direct action movement.

The timing couldn’t have been better- just 12 days before the British people went to the ballot box we had the perfect opportunity to demonstrate the strength of feeling.

The message was loud and clear as tens of thousands of us filled the streets and parliament square. Two Peregrine Falcons circled overhead as a united cry of ‘Restore Nature Now’ rang out across the halls of Westminster.

We need to continue to keep the pressure on in an ecological emergency- whoever sits in the house of commons, has the most important seat, a duty and responsibility to take the bold action our natural world urgently needs.

We have proved that, whatever separates us in mission or tactics, we have more in common than what separates us.

This is just the beginning.
